• Labour Day & Saskatchewan's Anniversary Article Drive

  Labour Day is Monday September 1, and Saskatchewan celebrates its 103 anniversary of joining confederation on September 4, 1905. Goal would be to improve the Saskatchewan article to feature status. Please leave a note on the tip line, if you are able over the next month to make improvements to the provincial article.

• A class reviews

  Some of the larger wikiprojects are doing their own peer reviews to pass articles from GA to A. See the introduction at A class reviews Is Saskatchewan membership large enough for this undertaking? Should there be a collaboration with Canada wikiproject in this regards?

• Community and Neighborhood Assessments

  There are now 769 community articles tagged and assessed for Saskatchewan Communities & Neighbourhoods using the new addition to the Canadian template.

• Saskatchewan B Class articles and Importance ratings

  An opportunity to Be bold and find out what is required to raise an aritlce past B class into GA or FA. Some information is included below about how to raise an article to B-class

• This is an article written about the wikipedia assessment process Wikipedia Article Quality Assessment and Ranking Tips for Users and Search Engine Engineers. The video game wikiproject reviewed what enabled a topic to be classifed and ranked as important within the scope of their wikiproject and was reviewed in their Newsletter
• For B-class articles the pre-requisites have been posted also at a few wikiprojects for the minimums required for B-class before advancing on to GA. Some wikiprojects offering B class outlines are Military History FAQ, Ships WP FAQ and WP UK roads The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

• Spotlight Award

  Leafschik1967  (talk · contribs) This months spotlight award to goes to Leafschik1967 . Amongst several editors, it was again hard to select only one for representation in this latest edition of the newsletter. This editor is diverse, editing a variety of SK sports related articles, SK communities and SK flora articles, helping out with Good article nominations and contributing to talk pages. Thank you for your assistance as Saskatchewan grows on wikipedia.

• Most Commonly Visited Pages

  • To help keep Saskatchewan current and visited at wikipedia... The Beijing Olympics, Summer Games and athletes were amongst the most commonly visited wikipedia pages last month. It would be good to have articles about our Saskatchewan Olympic competitors started, upgraded, and tagged on the talk pages as belonging to SK wikiproject. As well as Saskatchewan competitors in the upcoming September paralympics. Saskatchewan at olympics. Up and coming in the news is the international interest in the Arctic waters, and Greg Poelzer, associate professor of Political Studies has related that there will be growth in the Mining sector of northern Saskatchewan during this impetus.

• Version 0.7 Saskatchewan articles

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. • Canadian Election 2008

  • The election has now been called, so as with all elections we'll need to keep a close eye on the main article, party articles and candidate articles to make sure everything is conforming to policy (read: NPOV) and to watch out for likely edit wars.

Of course it will all be nothing compared to what happens on election night, October 14th, as packs of anon editors update ridings according to who won the first 1% of the vote, so mark that date on your calendar too. -Royalguard11(T) 18:11, 7 September 2008 (UTC) -Canadian Federal Election 2008

• Rural municpalities

  Individual categories for each rural municipality are being created. It would be good to gather consensus as to which articles should be tagged with an individual RM category. The places names which an RM provides rural government for should be within the individual category for the RM. However, should these areas also be added into the individual RM category: political divisions, points of interest, notable people from the RM, towns with their own urban governments which host the RM office? Add your comments.

• City naming / Missing coordinates

  Wikipedia:Canadian wikipedians' notice board/Cities - Per WP:NC, an incomplete review of which cities in Canada do or don't merit moves to their undisambiguated city names.

  Category:Canada articles missing geocoordinate data - Follow the instructions at Template:Coord to add co-ordinates to these articles.

  Masalai (talk · contribs) The November 2008 award is presented to Masalai for continuous contributions to several articles focusing mainly upon southern Saskatchewan. The knowledge Masalai brings to these articles combines statistical data with diverse notable events pertinent to the topic. • Extinct Settlements proposed wikiproject

  A new wikiproject is being proposed .... Extinct Settlements. Please feel free to add your comments, support or opposition for such a project on wikipedia. There was initially also conversation begun here on WP Cities as well as at WP SK communities.

• Curling Wikiproject work group proposal

  A Curling task project is being proposed.... As curling is Saskatchewan's provincial sport it may help out some of our community pages. Please feel free to join the discussion with comments, your support or non-support.

• Featured Article Drive

  A new Featured article drive is being proposed here which hopes to produce WP:FAC articles for the 25 largest cities in the United States. See how the Top 25 Canadian Cities Classes rate as was the beginning for the US city assessment classes.

• Setting weather records

  Hallowe'en was mild, above seasonal norm for temperatures, and without snow this year!!! On this note a new a new Saskatchewan Communities substitution template has been done up adding the weather statistical table. SriMesh | talk 00:05, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

• Use of coordinates?

  • A posting from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Canada Roads A bot is going around tagging various articles for missing coordinates. One recent tagging was on Highway 8 (Ontario) (see [1]). Given that a road will have numerous coordinates, what sort of coordinates should be defined for Canadian road articles, if any? Terminus points, perhaps control cities would be obvious candidates.   • Season's greetings are extended from the Saskatchewan wikiproject to you and yours over the holiday season.

• Holiday wiki-presents

  Give out barnstars, and let each other know that what they're doing is valued.

• Create a guide to stave off burnout and to help another wikipedian expand Saskatchewan topics.
• Participate in Saskatchewan Peer reviews or Community assessments.
• Get acquainted with the characteristics of Good Articles and help a fellow member get an article to WP:GA.
• Use the Newsletter. Add a tidbit that has helped you create an article on a Saskatchewan topic such as research materials, and ideas.
• Help out another Saskatchewan editor and provide a peer review on their articles. Feedback can range from brief comments after skimming through a page to a full blown dissection of grammar, structure, and references. Either way, every bit helps. Reviewing another editor's article can help sharpen your writing skills, which in turn can improve the articles you write.

• According to the December 2007 newsletter, it is one year since Saskatchewan articles have had an assessment department which enable Saskatchewan articles to be rated for importance and quality. The Canadian banner was modified one year ago to help improve Saskatchewan content. Please help to assess via quality and importance Saskatchewan articles by using the parent Canada wikiproject template{{WikiProject Canada |class= |importance= | sk=yes }}

• One year ago the new article department was also established. This new articles department introduces new wikipedia editors who are interested in Saskatchewan and also helps to monitor the expansion of Saskatchewan related articles. The new article department also alerts editors to fledgling articles which may receive tags for improvement.

• Natural resources of Saskatchewan

  • A request has been sent out for information regarding natural resources of Saskatchewan. Can there be an organisation of articles, categories or a list in this regards to satisfy the query?

• Saskatchewan Wikiproject facelift request

  There will be a Saskatchewan barnstar sent out to any editors who can provide a facelift to the Saskatchewan wikiproject over the next few weeks. There has been a large influx of material to the wikiproject since its inception, and now the material should be re-organised and re-distributed for ease of access.

• Maps as reliable sources

  • There is a l-o-o-ong discussion on the use of maps as reliable primary or secondary sources for wikipedia articles at Regarding maps as primary sources. This has a direct influence on highways and roads articles as well as town and placename articles.

  • Pride Week 1973 (Vancouver) has been tagged with renaming request as it refers to the Pride Week of various cities.
  • Can anyone add information regarding skating in Saskatchewan to Sports in Saskatchewan as the 2009 Canadian Figure Skating Championships will be held in Saskatoon?
  • Tom Freda, Wiser's Small Batch, Nosehill forest - are being considered for deletion and are related in some way to SK. These others are also being considered for deletion at google search for SK articles being considered for deletion as well as these 18 articles which supposedly don't meet notability guidelines such as Arthur Bergan which should just be wikified.
  • Moose Jaw and Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology requires clean up. Strawberry Ridge, Saskatchewan needs wikifying...as well as these 31 articles
  • Meadow Lake Tribal Council (Saskatchewan) needs categories as well as these 9 articles

  An opportunity to Be bold and find out what is required to raise an aritlce past B class into GA or FA. Some information is included below about how to raise an article to B-class

• This is an article written about the wikipedia assessment process Wikipedia Article Quality Assessment and Ranking Tips for Users and Search Engine Engineers. The video game wikiproject reviewed what enabled a topic to be classifed and ranked as important within the scope of their wikiproject and was reviewed in their Newsletter
• For B-class articles the pre-requisites have been posted also at a few wikiprojects for the minimums required for B-class before advancing on to GA. Some wikiprojects offering B class outlines are Military History FAQ, Ships WP FAQ and WP UK roads The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

• Saskatchewan articles of increase

  Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport has had joint editors expanding this article significantly. New topics have been started on Saskatchewan to improve the Geography of Saskatchewan main article so it may perchance run at GA again. Flora, Fauna, and Geology of Saskatchewan articles have been started. There is an article started for almost every highway listed at List of Saskatchewan provincial highways. Since the election, several electoral district articles have been updated with the current information which is fabulous and a large undertaking. The cities and towns of Saskatchewan have articles of representation. Redlinks for villages are disappearing from the List of communities in Saskatchewan. Hamlets, rural municipalities and Indian reserves, still need more help in regards to their red links. (BTW there is a discussion First Nations reserves v.s. Indian reserves naming)

• Spotlight Department

  Jwkozak91 (talk · contribs) is a new editor to receive the Spotlight Saskatchewan Award. Jwkozak91 has contributed to the growth of Saskatchewan articles on wikipedia through updates of current information mainly to political articles joining the editorial crew there. Jwkozak91 has shown significant additions to the improved quality of articles, which is the current focus of the Wikproject. A large thank you goes out to Jwkozak91 at this time. Pop by and give Jwkozak91 a pat on the back for their work on WikiProject Saskatchewan.

  Bearcat (talk · contribs) The February 2009 award is presented to Bearcat who has kept abreast of political party and people (PPAP) articles and their content. Bearcat not only improves and updates politically inclined articles but provides guidance and coaches others in their edits of political articles as well. Swing on over to the talk page of Bearcat and present them with a barnstar or two, along with a thank you or two for their contribtions to wikipedia as a veteran editor, and for keeping articles with dated content up to date.

• Saskatchewan photographs

  • when you are traveling or looking through old pictures, if there are any of Saskatchewan roads, highways or Saskatchewan highway signs that you would wish to upload to wikimedia commons, it would be appreciated. It would be good to show our highways in various seasons as well as with various geographical terrains. Of especial import when getting involved with photographing highways are junctions, scenic points of interest, historical markers, intersections, divided highways, road crews, historical road crews, historical travel on highways, overpasses, underpasses and road signs showing concurrencies between various highways.
  • Besides the above photographs, there are also these articles lacking images Wikipedia requested photographs in Saskatchewan

• Coordinators and A Class Review

  Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group.
